I know have yelled about our Gutsy.tv film, ‘This is Stroke’, winning the Cannes Bronze Lion for Best Use of Technology in June 2015, but we also won two silver awards at the IPA Best of Health Show for Digital Media and Individual Film.

The premise for the film was to bring the causes of Atrial Fibrillation Strokes front of mind. How better to do that than by putting on a VR headset and experience having a stroke through the eyes of a victim?

‘This is Stroke’, was intended for a one-off showing at the World Pharmaceutical Congress in Madrid in August 2014, but its success has seen it translated into four languages and being shown to doctors and healthcare workers worldwide.

We’ve had an amazing journey with this film, from Natalie Barrass coming to us with the idea of using VR from Spherevision, to building the crew, finding the actors, the production challenges (especially directing drama when you can’t be in the room, while shooting on the 360-degree camera) and the learning curve of editing the many camera views together.

We filmed Stroke 2 this year, using an actual stroke patient and her story. It was shown at the World Pharmaceutical Conference in London in August 2015.

When we started looking at the hardware for viewing the VR films in early 2014, they were bulky and expensive – upwards of £600.00. Now you can get google cardboard for $8 and drop in your iPhone or Samsung phone with a VR app. Stroke 2 is available in this version, making it so much more accessible.
