The NPG’s late shift allows you to drink wine while viewing the art – who can refuse that offer!
I’m a regular visitor to the NPG but once a year I love to visit the Taylor Wessing portrait photography exhibition. I even entered it in 2013!
There are usually around 6,000 entries from around the world and only 60 win to be on display in London. The standard is always very high but is it your cup of tea!
In recent years I’ve been surprised by the lack of emotion or personality that is captured in the photography. There is definitely a coldness in the room even a cyan hue to the gallery’s collection.
This year I was pleasantly surprised at the variety and the warmth of many of the shots. Sadly I feel if you shoot a famous person there is more chance of getting into the selection. Nevertheless I’m putting my flag in the sand and entering again this year. Not to win (though that would be nice) but just for the taking part!
The excitement of choosing, printing and giving up your work to be judged by your pears was actually very rewarding. So watch this space!
